The Physical Education and Sport Sciences (PESS) department is a vibrant and rapidly growing department in the Faculty of Education and Health Sciences at the University of Limerick. The Department has a clear mission to be a research-led centre of excellence in Physical Education (PE), Coaching and Sport & Exercise Sciences (SES). The department’s strengths lie in the expertise of its staff, the quality of its academic programmes, high quality teaching spaces and the applied nature and relevance of these programmes.

Staff within the PESS Department has been involved in the initiation and development of a number of research centres and units and the MSc programmes are underpinned by cutting-edge research in these fields. The department has strategic and research links with a number of key organisations such as Sport Ireland, the Gaelic Athletic Association, Swim Ireland, the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU), Munster Rugby, and Limerick Sports Partnership to name some. These links are integral to the delivery of the MSc programmes.
