Post Doctoral Researcher in Physical Education Teacher Education
The purpose of this job is to develop research to improve the educational quality in physical education and physical education teacher education through an innovative conceptualisation of the processes of teaching and teacher education. The candidate will co-lead the research: ‘Collaborative redesign of physical education and physical education teacher education’ that aims to respond to two main research questions: (1) What are the processes and resulting outcomes of developing signature pedagogies across a number of international physical education initial teacher education providers and physical education continuous professional development programmes? and (2) What are the processes and resulting outcomes of developing an international physical education teacher academy? Researchers employed on a Researcher Career Framework Contract will have dual goals in terms of a particular research project and their own career development. The training and development relevant to this position will be completed within the period of the contract in which time the researcher will continue to develop skills and competencies with respect to the role and their future career options.
Essential Criteria:
- A doctoral degree (level 10 NFQ) in an education-related discipline, physical education, or physical education teacher education.
- At PDR2 level, appointees will generally have 3 years postdoctoral research experience.
- Evidence of publication of qualitative research in peer-reviewed journals with an impact factor.
- Experience in qualitative research designs and qualitative data analysis.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Desirable Criteria:
- Evidence of knowledge of collaborative self-study of teaching and teacher education practice and learning communities research designs.
- Evidence of knowledge of grounded theory and/or thematic analysis analytical procedures of data analysis.
- Evidence of presentation of work at national or international conferences.
- A track record of conducting individual and/or collaborative research projects with a variety of research partners.
- Demonstrate a capacity to work independently and within a project team to achieve results.
- Demonstrate a record of involvement and/or leadership in projects.
- Experience of supervision of postgraduate researchers or undergraduate research projects.
- Evidence of identifying research priorities, sources of funding and pursuing the process of securing funds.
