About the role
The purpose of the role is to conduct research activities for the Learning in Motion project, led by the Professor Elaine Murtagh (University of Limerick) and Dr Ahmad Aljanazrah (Birzeit University). The project examines how gender responsive, play-based pedagogies can be embedded in teacher education programmes at university level in Palestine. Since 2020 the project team has explored how research-informed pedagogies can be incorporated into teacher education practice to enhance the educational experience of children in Palestine.
Specific objectives of the project were to (1) identify, assess and evaluate the barriers and enablers for changes to teacher education practice, (2) implement a continuing professional development (CPD) programme to upskill teacher educators in gender responsive, play-based pedagogies, and (3) examine the adoption and implementation of the teacher education CPD programme. Now in the final phase of the project we are seeking an experienced researcher to ensure successful dissemination of research findings.
The successful candidates will:
- Analyse data and prepare reports.
- Draft research papers for publication in international peer-reviewed journals.
- Liaise with both internal and external project stakeholders in Palestine and Ireland .
- Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities as required to develop research skills and competencies.
- Substantially contribute to the identification of external funding sources and the preparation of grant proposals.
- Carry out administrative work to support the programme of research and any additional duties as may reasonably be required within the general scope and level of the post.
Candidate requirements
Essential
- A PhD in a relevant area, e.g. education, social sciences
- Evidence of research interests in at least one of the following areas: education, gender equity, play-based learning, gamification
- Experience in qualitative research methods
- Evidence of publications in peer-reviewed journals and/or presentation of work at national or international conferences
- Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with external stakeholders
- Capacity to work independently and within a project team to achieve results
- Highly motivated with excellent organisational skills
- Proficiency in the use of ICT, demonstrating these skills effectively in report writing, communicating and presenting information.
Desirable
- Knowledge of the research, theory and practice of teacher education
- Demonstrate a record of involvement and/or leadership in projects
- Knowledge and/or experience of research in the Palestinian context.
Salary and commitments
- €42,782 – €46,569 per annum (point 1 – 4 of the IUA level 2 researcher scale). Note that the appointment will be made at maximum point 4 of the IUA postdoctoral researcher scale.
- Duration: 8 months available up to 31 July 2024 (duration dependent on start date)
