Chapter Summary: When attempting to improve performance or to accelerate rehabilitation, coaches and applied practitioners must make recommendations on which interventions to pursue or reject. Effective decision making requires an openness to new ideas balanced against a sceptical scrutiny. The Dual Axis Framework provides a tool for coaches and applied practitioners to structure their evaluation of the evidence-base underpinning their practice, to engage in productive peer discussions, and to decide where to invest, innovate, investigate and debunk. The framework will also help students to critically evaluate the literature which is an essential skill that underpins future scientific investigations.
