Research Impact: The aim of this study was to co-create together with physical education teachers and students, design principles to guide the pedagogical approaches where digital technologies and social media are used. Design-based research informed the co-creation process that involved 17 physical education post-primary teachers and 372 students. Gamification narratives to guide planning and teaching, as well as the use of virtual teaching-learning environments that combine content management systems, social networks and physical activity monitoring, were found as the most relevant principles to be considered when planning pedagogical approaches where digital technologies and social media are used in post-primary settings.
