Graduates Return for Research Project Presentations on the MSc Applied Sports Coaching
On Monday 21st July, coaches on the MSc Applied Sports Coaching programme presented on their research projects. These were projects of personal interest and personal development that they had worked on in the second year of the programme. You can see a sample of project titles in the picture below, completed by coaches working in rugby, swimming, Gaelic football, archery, triathlon, and hurling.

The presentations took the form of “5 slides in 5 minutes” to stimulate conversation amongst the gathered audience of their peers and graduates from previous years who had returned to PESS for the day. These research projects are the ultimate, focused personal development, nicely captured by this presenting coach:
“Without doubt, this is the best thing I have ever done to enhance my coaching practice, particularly given the depth of the research, the self-analysis and breadth of time”

Two of the returning graduates also presented on work they have been engaged with since completing the programme. Jonathan Gibson spoke about his passion for ethnodrama as a means to create more impactful coach education.

Stephen Maxwell encouraged the audience to rethink coaching styles, illustrating a wide range of exciting opportunities to engage with athletes, opposition coaches and technology.

To finish the day, Shane Keegan provided an inspiring guest session on how ‘You are always learning as a coach’, telling stories of his development and lessons learned across multiple sports.
