Skill Acquisition: Defining and Developing Skill – Dr Phil Kearney.

PESS staff member Dr Phil Kearney was recently featured on The Sport Psych Show podcast. Phil said:

Our discussion centred on the Guide to Skill Acquisition within Gaelic Games (hopefully stimulating whatever your sport) which can be found here.

We also spoke about:
– What is skill acquisition?
– What is the relationship between sport psychology and skill acquisition
– What are the implications of skill acquisition for evaluating coach behaviours
– Right at the very end, why you should be listening for the rhythms of two drums when assessing long term athlete development (see this link for a much better explanation than I managed).

To learn more about Skill Acquisition within Gaelic Games, take a look at this video from November’s Gaelic Games conference.
