Research Impact : The cautious climate in Ireland of teachers being involved in assessing students’ work is delaying the enactment of such curricula and, more specifically for this paper, currently hindering associated assessment processes. It is therefore fitting and timely to explore the extent to which the current discussions in Ireland around teachers being responsible for assessing their own students’ work is subsequently impacting (or not) the delivery and assessment of physical education. This discussion is particularly timely given the very recent endorsement of the introduction of the new Leaving Certificate Physical Education as a full optional subject.
