PESS International Officer – DJ Collins

Hello and welcome to all our new and current International Taught Undergraduate and Postgraduate/Erasmus/Exchange and Study Abroad students here in the PESS Department. Some of you are here since the Autumn Semester while others, especially those of you commencing your studies in the MSc in Sports Performance and MSc in Sports Exercise and Performance Psychology are new to our beautiful campus. Let me introduce myself, I am Dr DJ Collins and as well as being a Senior Technical Officer here in the PESS Department, I am also the PESS International Officer. In this role I am here to help those of you visiting UL for 1 semester/year/full time course settle into life in PESS as best I can and advise you on different aspects of UL life. For those of you who are current PESS Undergrads in PE and SES, I will be holding an online meeting in the next few weeks in relation to Erasmus placement for the 2021/22 academic year.

As a recommendation for those of you who have English as their second language please make sure to register for the Academic Literacies Module (AW6001/AW6012) This is an additional module designed to provide support for full time postgraduate international students. The module aims to equip international students with the practical skills required to get the most from your learning experience while you are here in UL.  To register for this module visit bookofmodules.ul.ie or contact Catherine.Martin@ul.ie for more details on it.

A great source of information for any visiting International student is the UL Global Hub. This contains all the necessary information about supports in place for International students including student support services, Covid-19 support and FAQ https://www.ul.ie/inter The UL Global Student Ambassador Programme is another great way to meet new people and share experiences while studying here in UL. It is something I would recommend to any visiting student https://www.ul.ie/international/why-study-ul/university/ul-global-student-ambassador-programme

Finally, I would again just like to welcome you all to the PESS department. Please enjoy your time here with us, stay safe, follow the National Health guidelines and hopefully once the restrictions you can fully explore this wonderful campus and region of Ireland.

Le meas,
DJ
