Research Master’s opportunity in Physical Education, Physical Activity & Youth Sport – elaine murtagh.

PEPAYS Ireland, in conjunction with the University of Limerick, is delighted to offer a one-year full-time or two-year part-time opportunity for a Research Master’s aligned to the mission and core values of the PEPAYS Ireland Research Centre.

To use high-quality, multi-disciplinary and multi-entity research to shape, influence and inform policy and practice relating to advancing the health and well-being of populations in the areas of physical education, sport, physical activity and health.

  • Understand the conditions that enhance children and youth’s capacities for participation in a physically active lifestyle
  • Pursue collaborative multi-disciplinary approaches to research on children’s engagement in a physically active lifestyle
  • Develop exemplary models of teacher education and professional development in physical education
  • Develop exemplary models of coaching education and professional development in youth sport

Fees and stipend:

Fees will be paid for the one-year full time Research Masters with a stipend of €18,000.

Fees will be paid for the two-year part time Research Masters with a stipend of €9, 000 each year.


Interested candidates should contact potential supervisors in the first instance to discuss research projects aligned with this opportunity. Potential supervisors may be identified through the PEPAYS Ireland Forum proceedings ( and here). It is envisaged that supervisory teams will be inter-institutional. Note that at least one supervisor must be a staff member at the University of Limerick.

Applicants are requested to submit an application comprising: (i) a CV – max 3 pages, and (ii) an application statement of no more than 1000 words that outlines (1) familiarity and interest in the core values and mission of PEPAYS Ireland, (2) a proposed outline for a project and associated project deliverables, and (3) the skillset and interests of the applicant that align with the advertised opportunity. Brief biographies for the supervisory team should also be appended to the application (max 200 words per supervisor).
