Research Impact: There is broad agreement about the value of sports coaches unpacking the values and beliefs that underpin their practice. However, limited research has examined the development and structure of coaches’ beliefs about knowledge. In particular, the sports coaching literature has not engaged with contemporary developmental models of personal epistemology from other academic fields. In this case study of renowned adventure sports coach Doug Cooper, we draw upon Theory of Integrated Domains in Epistemology (TIDE)1 and derive practical recommendations for coach developers.
