PESS staff member Dr Antonio Calderón was recently interviewed on RTÉ Radio 1 Drivetime about the introduction of new activities such as parkour and pickleball into PE.
Antonio discussed:
- The importance of not just focusing on the activities, but more importantly on the context and pedagogical approaches
- The potential for activities such as parkour within the physical education curriculum and the broader school community.
- Engaging with the student voice as part of the exploration of novel activities.
- The place of competition and cooperation within physical education.
- The importance of not only focus on the physical domain of learning, but also the social, the affective, the cognitive, the cultural and the emotional.
