ISESA CONFERENCE – MAY 2026.

The Department of Physical Education and Sport Sciences at the University of Limerick
is set to have a strong presence at the ISESA 2026 Conference, taking place at the
Technological University of the Shannon on 21–22 May 2026. The conference brings
together researchers, practitioners, students, and industry leaders from across Ireland
and beyond to explore current developments in sport and exercise science.

UL PESS staff and researchers including ISESA Chair Prof Tom Comyns, Dr John Noone,
Dr William Hughes, Dr Phil Kearney, Dr Shane Ryan, Dr Grainne Hayes
and members of
the wider PESS research community are contributing across keynote sessions,
workshops, and oral presentations throughout the conference. Their work reflects the
department’s broad expertise across sport science, coaching, physical activity,
biomechanics, psychology, and human performance. Conference presentations
involving UL contributors explore topics including skill acquisition, applied sport
psychology, athlete monitoring, coaching practice, sprint performance, injury research,
and performance analysis.

The conference programme also highlights the growing impact of PESS research and
applied practice, with UL researchers contributing to discussions examining rugby
injury incidence, sports performance analysis, and practical applications of sprint data
in training environments.

ISESA 2026 provides an important platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and
discussion around the future of sport and exercise science. The event also reflects the
continued international recognition of UL PESS, with the department noted in the
programme following UL’s ranking of 41st globally for Sports-Related Subjects in the
2026 QS World University Rankings
