Research Impact: In recent years, there’s been growing interest in how children and young people (CYP) develop physical literacy (PL) through physical activity, PE and sport. While adults’ perspectives are well studied, young people’s voices across Ireland and Northern Ireland have been largely missing. This review of 29 studies explores how CYP feel about being active and what shapes their choices. Five key themes were identifed: having choice, having fun, social influences, competition, and barriers to positive experiences. These insights highlight how we can better support young people to enjoy being active and build healthy habits that last a lifetime.
