Welcome to PESS, Dr. Jenna Lorusso!

The Department of Physical Education and Sport Sciences (PESS) at the University of Limerick is delighted to welcome Dr. Jenna Lorusso to the team as an Assistant Professor of Physical Education.

Jenna joins PESS with an extensive academic and professional background in physical education, teacher education, policy and research, bringing a wealth of international experience to the department.

Academic background

Jenna completed her Bachelor of Physical Education and Bachelor of Education at Brock University before going on to complete a Masters of Applied Health Sciences, also at Brock University.

She subsequently completed her Doctor of Education at Western University.

Since joining the University of Limerick, Jenna has also held two postdoctoral fellowships: a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada Postdoctoral Fellowship and a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowship.

Previous experience

Jenna has extensive experience in physical education teacher education, having led modules at Brock University, Western University and the University of Alberta.

Alongside her academic experience, she has also worked as a policy analyst with the Canada School of Public Service, bringing valuable experience of policy development and public service to her work.

Teaching and research

At PESS, Jenna will contribute to teaching in physical education teacher education, with a particular focus on curriculum, assessment and applying research to practice.

Her research focuses on the preparation of physical education professionals to navigate issues of policy, equity and leadership in their practice.

Her work reflects a strong interest in supporting future physical education professionals to understand and respond to the challenges and opportunities they will encounter throughout their careers.

What does Jenna enjoy most about her work?

For Jenna, one of the most rewarding aspects of her work is seeing young people develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to engage in meaningful movement throughout their lives.

“My favourite part of my job is seeing young people develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to engage in meaningful movement across their lifespan, and helping future PE teachers create those opportunities.”
