Sport Pedagogy Researchers present their work at the AIESEP 2024 International Conference – professor elaine murtagh.

The AIESEP international conference showcases the best research in sport pedagogy and physical education. Recently a team of researchers from PESS travelled to the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, to present at the 2024 AIESEP conference.

PESS researchers presented 19 conference papers, highlighting the significant contribution that PESS makes to Sport Pedagogy field globally. These include:

·        To what extent can educational resources travel across different cultures? Teaching Games for Understanding model across the Atlantic Ocean, the case of Chile (Carmen Barquero Ruiz)

·        Translating physical education policy advocacy experiences into practical lessons through the policy process case method with a teacher, teacher educator, and curriculum officer (Jenna Lorusso)

·        An examination of secondary school students’ attitudes towards Physical Education in Ireland (Brendan O’Keeffe)

·        ‘5 years on; same, same, but different?’: Physical education teachers’ realities of curriculum policy development and enacting examinable physical education (Brendan O’Keeffe, Jenna Lorusso)

·        An examination of pre-service Physical Education teachers perceived and assessed levels of common content knowledge (Brendan O’Keeffe)

·        Children and adolescents’ perceptions of physical literacy (Elaine Murtagh)

·        Promoting Gaelic games in Irish primary schools – the perspectives of teachers and external coaches (Elaine Murtagh)

·        Development of deportigualízate: an intersectional critical feminist curriculum (Marina Castro-García)

·        Digital technology in physical education: An entangled pedagogy perspective (Antonio Calderón)

·        The lived experience of a primary physical education teacher educator engaging in action research: cycling into change (Antonio Calderón)

·        Spanning Boundaries in Curriculum Reform; The Evolving Role of a Physical Education Teacher Educator in Ireland (Claire Walsh)

·        The lived experiences of four doctoral students’ transitioning in their researcher identity as members of a learning community (Claire Walsh)

As part of the symposium on Exploring Signature Pedagogies of Teacher Education in Physical Education:

·        An exploration of teacher educators’ experiences with signature pedagogies for their own professional learning (Antonio Calderón)

·        An exploration of PSTs’ experiences with signature pedagogies in initial teacher education (Marina Castro-García)

In a symposium on (Re)inventing the socially-just teaching personal and social responsibility (SJ-TPSR) approach in physical education teacher education: an international learning community:

·        Exploring the enactment of SJTPSR in physical education with Irish primary and secondary pre-service teachers (Antonio Calderón)

·        (Re)inventing the Socially-Just Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility (SJ-TPSR)approach in Physical Education Teacher Education: An international learning community (Antonio Calderón)

·        The Socially-Just Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility (SJTPSR) approach: A humanising lens and the power of the ‘-‘ (Antonio Calderón)

PESS researchers also led a symposium on Dialogue and Solidarity in Teacher Education: positionality in learning, teaching and advocating for social justice. Presentations included:

·        Shared Responsibility Across a Shared Island (SRASI): Making space for social justice in PETE (Elaine Murtagh)

·        SRASI: Teaching approaches and pedagogical considerations (Antonio Calderón)
