72 PC gamers completed a bespoke target acquisition test which mimics the flicking skill from first-person shooter gamers (i.e., Counter-Strike: Global Offensive) with gaming mice weighing 50, 60, 90 & 100g. Participants responded significantly faster when using mice lighter than 100g. We also found that gamers were significantly more accurate and precise when using a lower compared to higher control-display gain (DPI). Participants also preferred using lighter mice (50g & 60g) when using lower DPI, significantly benefitting performance. Overall, gamers looking to improve target acquisition performance may see benefits using a combination of a lighter gaming mouse at lower DPI.
